Southern Cooking With a Twist

Contrary to what you might think, cooking with cannabis doesn’t mean that you will be stirring plant matter into your dish (not usually at least). When we say “cooking with cannabis” we are talking about using an everyday item in your dish that has been infused with cannabinoids, which are the active ingredients in cannabis that produce the healing and psychotropic effects most people are looking for.

This “everyday item” is usually something that contains a lot of fat, like oil or butter, because the THC molecules readily attach to fat, which is easily metabolized by your body. In other words, we are going to take the THC out of the cannabis, attach it to millions of fat molecules, and let it hitch a ride into your blood stream by way of your digestive system and your liver. Sound like fun? Good because it is.

Choosing your delivery vehicle

Since the process of cooking with cannabis usually means infusing that cannabis into something else first then we need to know what our end-product is going to be before we decide on an infusion medium. Some of the mediums that can be infused with cannabis include butter, olive oil, coconut oil, canola oil, corn syrup, alcohol, vegetable glycerin and more!

Once you have infused your cannabis into a delivery medium then it becomes pretty obvious how versatile this infusion can be. The items that are infused can be used in nearly any recipe you would ordinarily use them in. For example, cannabis-infused olive oil can be used as in pasta, salad dressings, baked dishes, savory meals or any other number of dishes that you would normally use olive oil in.
