Alabama Medical Marijuana Protest Set for Saturday

Medical marijuana rally in Alabama

Alabama medical marijuana advocates are set to hold a protest rally in the home district of state Sen. Jabo Waggoner on Saturday May 2, 2015.

Medical marijuana legislation (Senate Bill 326) received approval in a Senate committee last week, but Republican lawmakers are hesitant to put Sen. Bobby Singleton’s bill on the calendar to even be discussed on the Senate floor.

The board legislation would allow patients with 25-specific conditions to purchase as much as 10 ounces of marijuana a month. A limited number of dispensaries would be allowed.

The speaker list for the event includes:

  • Ron Crumpton– Executive Director of Alabama Safe Access Project and Democratic Candidate for United States Senate.
  • Chris Butts– Executive Director of Alabama Medical Marijuana Coalition.
  • Paula Coleman Greenaway– Aunt of Mary Ann Coleman, Attorney, mother of three.
  • Will White– Medically Retired Parachute Infantry Sergeant, 2 tours Iraq, 2 tours Afghanistan. Purple Heart recipient.

The rally, hosted by the Alabama Medical Marijuana Coalition and Alabama Safe Access Project, is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Vestavia Hills City Hall,  513 Montgomery Highway. Click here for a map and directions.
